This year, September 11th (Len’s birthday) had a special significance for us. Len and I were invited by Deva Premal and Miten to join them for a socially-distanced weekend retreat at Blue Spirit Retreat Center in Nosara, Costa Rica. Deva and Miten had been “stranded” in Costa Rica due to the pandemic since last winter. As an act of service and generosity, Deva and Miten were offering daily songs and meditations online, which turned out to be a port in the storm for so many!
I have been a fan for almost 20 years, so tuning into the daily music and meditations became a regular and rewarding practice for me. As it happened, I tuned in just after Miten’s cherished guitar became damaged by the high humidity found in Costa Rica. After learning that the first repair didn’t turn out to Miten’s liking, I connected him with Len, who is a guitarist, and knew of an excellent guitar repair shop. Len took the opportunity to share a link to our original music recorded on our Luminosity cd with Miten.
We were welcomed warmly by Miten on the orientation night of the Len’s birthday weekend retreat. What followed during the weekend were invitations for us to join Deva and Miten onstage for the 4 remaining musical programs. It was a joy to add my voice and harmonies to the sacred chants and deeply beautiful songs. Len’s guitar added to the beauty and fullness of the music. The deeper layer of the experience was light and bliss for me, and for Len it was an affirmation of the power of gentleness to open our audience to the depths of our music!
We were floating on clouds after the experience, and upon returning home, we found inspiration to dedicate our time and energy to create the videos that are we’re sharing here. Len has remixed several of our songs on Luminosity reflecting a more gentle approach, which feels like a closer expression of the song’s true essence. We look forward to join Deva and Miten onstage in the future. In the meantime, we are grateful for the profoundly beautiful experience we had on that birthday weekend!
